Location: Fattoria Cà di Gianni
For many years the staff of English Summer Camp have collaborated with the passionate and dedicated staff of Fattoria Cà di Gianni. It is a relationship built on trust and passion for creating a safe, fun and beautiful experience for all the children and families who come to visit. The staff of Cà di Gianni is a family and they make us feel like part of it. Everyone works at the Fattoria! Mamma Martha works in the kitchen making sure the food we eat each day is yummy! Martha’s three adult children: Luca, Silvia and Paola run each area of the structure with the help of their grandchildren.
My favorite part of being at English Summer Camp is the view of the beautiful nature around us. After I wake up all the campers in the morning, I sit in front of the valley with my coffee while I wait for everyone to come down for breakfast. It reminds me to stop and breathe each morning and I know that the campers feel its beauty throughout the day too.
When I ask the campers what their favorite part of the day was, they usually respond “The Swimming Pool” or “Albering.”
Another great thing about Cà di Gianni is that everything we need is on location. They have a great pool for us to use everyday which is perfect for the hot days of July. The Adventure park is just behind the main structure so we don’t waste time traveling. We have our own “Magical Room” where we gather everyday to sing camp songs, pause in the evening to journal about our experiences, watch a movie when it gets dark and play games if it rains. I provide large rugs and pillows so that kids have a place to relax and chill with their friends during free-time. Finally the wooded area around the Emiliano-Tuscan hills are just waiting for us to go hiking and explore them.
“What are we going to eat? is a question I hear many times a day during camp. For Italians, food is very important and we are lucky to have Martha and her staff make us wonderful meals each day. Every morning our Breakfast is a buffet except on Fridays when we are served a special breakfast. Following Italian tradition, at both lunch and dinner we are served two courses, 1) pasta/rice course 2) meat/vegetable course with the exception of the pizza party 😋. Meals include kid-friendly, healthy, food typical from the Romagna region with vegetables and bread. This is great for our campers because it ensures that everyone gets plenty of good food that they like to keep them going throughout the day full of activities. The kitchen is also equipped for any kind of food allergy like Celiac disease and Lactose intolerance and can prepare special meals for vegetarians and vegans. When parents fill out the registration form they are asked to notify me and the staff of all food needs and issues and I communicate this directly to the staff before arriving Monday morning. Everyone is responsible for making sure kids feel good and healthy.
